Ingredients

Meat and Sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes 28 oz
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
Pasta and Cheese
  • 9 lasagna noodles uncooked broken into pieces
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese grated

Method

Cook the Meat
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Prepare the Sauce
  1. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  2. Let the sauce simmer for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
Add Noodles
  1. Add the broken lasagna noodles to the skillet, stirring to combine with the sauce.
  2. Pour in enough water to just cover the noodles, about 2 cups.
  3. Cover and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until noodles are tender.
Add Cheese
  1. Remove the skillet from heat and dollop the ricotta cheese over the top.
  2. Sprinkle the mozzarella and parmesan cheese evenly over the ricotta.
  3. Cover the skillet again and let it sit for 5 minutes until the cheese is melted.
Serve
  1. Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve hot.
