Ingredients

Bread Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus extra for dusting
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 1 packet active dry yeast or 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 teaspoon sugar to activate yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
Herb and Cheese Mixture
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil chopped
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Incorporate Herbs and Cheese
  1. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface.
  2. Flatten the dough and sprinkle the herb and cheese mixture over the top.
  3. Fold the dough over the mixture and knead gently to incorporate the herbs and cheese.
Shape and Bake
  1. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Cover the loaf with a towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  5. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
