Method
Cook the Pasta
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Caramelize the Onions
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes until the onions are caramelized and golden brown.
Prepare the Broth
- Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme to the caramelized onions. Bring to a simmer and let cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Combine and Bake
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In an oven-safe dish, combine the cooked pasta with the onion broth mixture. Top with Gruyère and Parmesan cheese. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
