Ingredients
  

Beef and Broth
  • 2 pounds beef chuck roast trimmed and cut into large chunks
  • 1 cup beef broth low sodium
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce optional
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
Sandwich Assembly
  • 4 rolls French rolls or hoagie rolls
  • 4 slices provolone cheese or mozzarella
  • 1 tablespoon butter for toasting rolls

Method
 

Prepare the Beef
  1. Place the beef chuck roast in the Crock Pot.
  2. Add beef broth, water, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  3. Stir to combine and ensure the beef is submerged in the liquid.
Cook the Beef
  1. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours until the beef is tender.
  2. Once cooked, shred the beef using two forks and mix it back into the broth.
Assemble the Sandwiches
  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter.
  2. Slice the French rolls in half and toast them in the skillet until golden brown.
  3. Place a generous amount of shredded beef on the bottom half of each roll.
  4. Top with a slice of provolone cheese and cover with the top half of the roll.
Serve
  1. Serve the sandwiches with a small bowl of the cooking broth for dipping.
