Ingredients
  

Beef Brisket
  • 3 pounds beef brisket trimmed of excess fat
Spices and Seasonings
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Cooking Liquid
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand
For Serving
  • 4 buns burger buns for serving
  • 1 cup coleslaw optional topping

Method
 

Prepare the Brisket
  1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Rub the spice mixture all over the brisket, ensuring it is evenly coated.
Sear the Brisket
  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a bit of oil.
  2. Sear the brisket on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Slow Cook the Brisket
  1. Transfer the seared brisket to the slow cooker.
  2. Pour beef broth and barbecue sauce over the brisket.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the meat is tender and easily pulled apart.
Caramelize the Brisket
  1. Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Shred the brisket using two forks.
  3. In a skillet, add the shredded brisket and some of the cooking liquid, cooking over medium heat until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
Serve
  1. Serve the caramelized pulled beef brisket on buns topped with coleslaw if desired.
