  • 1 teaspoon Coarsely Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 large Egg (a flax egg is a vegan alternative)
  • 1 medium Shallot (Grated)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 medium Shallots (Diced)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (Minced)
  • 1 tablespoon Yellow Mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • 1/2 cup Barley Tea (or broth)
  • 1 cup Beef Broth (or vegetable broth)
  • 1 cup Cream (or coconut cream for dairy-free)
  • 2 tablespoons Chives (Chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, egg, and grated shallot until combined.
  2. Form into four equal patties and cook in olive oil over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
  3. Remove patties from the pan. In the same skillet, sauté diced shallots until translucent; add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the mixture, then gradually whisk in barley tea and beef broth. Let it simmer until slightly thickened before adding cream.
  5. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer in the sauce for a few more minutes before serving.
