  • 1/3 cup heavy cream (room temperature)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons apple butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling by cooking diced apples with apple butter, sugar, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt until tender.
  2. For the dough, create tangzhong by mixing water and bread flour over low heat until thickened. Combine remaining ingredients for dough in a bowl and knead until smooth.
  3. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter before sprinkling on brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread your apple filling evenly over this layer and roll it up tightly.
  4. Slice the rolled dough into equal pieces and let rise in a greased baking dish until puffy.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Frost warm rolls with cream cheese frosting made from whipped butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream, and apple butter.
